Flutter · One codebase, native feel
How do you take a Flutter app through store deployment?
Short answer
Prepare signing and store metadata, run internal testing, comply with privacy and data policies, and roll out in stages with monitoring and a rollback plan.
Store deployment is a release process, not a single upload. Both stores require signing identities, versioning, screenshots, descriptions, privacy disclosures and content ratings. Apple reviews builds and enforces privacy manifests and tracking rules; Google requires a data safety declaration and target API compliance.
flutter build appbundle --release
bundle exec fastlane supply --aab build/app/outputs/bundle/release/app-release.aab
flutter build ipa --release
bundle exec fastlane pilot upload --ipa build/ios/ipa/app.ipa- Test through TestFlight and Play internal testing before production
- Declare data collection accurately in App Store privacy details and Play data safety
- Provide account deletion if the app supports account creation
- Use staged rollout and monitor crash-free sessions and ANRs
- Keep a rollback or halt plan for a bad release
Review rejections to prevent
Common problems include broken demo credentials, missing functionality behind a login, inaccurate privacy declarations, iPad layout issues and payment flows that violate store rules. A review team must be able to reach every part of the app. Screenshots and metadata must match the shipped build.
Follow-ups you should expect
Interviewers use these to check whether the first answer was understanding or memorisation.
- 1What does a staged rollout protect against?
- 2Which privacy disclosures are required on each store?
- 3Why do apps get rejected for login-gated functionality?
- 4How would you automate store uploads safely?
Say it in the interview
I treat store deployment as a process: signing, metadata, privacy declarations, internal testing, staged rollout and monitoring. I make sure reviewers can access every feature with working demo credentials, and that privacy forms match what the app actually collects. I automate builds and uploads but keep secrets in CI. After release I watch crash-free rate and ANR data, with a halt plan if the rollout degrades.
Use this as a model, not a script. Saying it in your own words is what makes it survive follow-up pressure.
