CI/CD · Ship safely, repeatedly
What is CI/CD and what problem does it solve?
Short answer
CI/CD automates integration, testing and delivery so every change can reach production safely and repeatably. It replaces manual release steps with a versioned pipeline that produces evidence at each stage.
Continuous integration is about merging small changes into a shared mainline and proving each merge with an automated build and test run. Continuous delivery and continuous deployment extend that automation through packaging, environment promotion and release.
What the pipeline is responsible for
- Turning a commit into a reproducible artifact that can be traced back to its source
- Running the checks that gate a change, such as tests, scans and policy rules
- Promoting the same artifact through environments instead of rebuilding it
- Recording what was deployed, by whom, and whether it was healthy
stages:
- validate
- build
- test
- scan
- package
- deploy
- verifyFollow-ups you should expect

Say it in the interview
CI/CD is how we turn a commit into a safe production change through automation. CI proves that a merge builds and passes its checks, while CD packages and promotes the same artifact through environments. The value is smaller batches, faster feedback and a release process that is repeatable rather than dependent on one person. I measure it with lead time, deployment frequency, change failure rate and recovery time.
Use this as a model, not a script. Saying it in your own words is what makes it survive follow-up pressure.
